Sunday 15th and we are moving to another hotel at Kai Bea beach, still on the island but back up the coast. Arrived at 11.30, our bungalow looked very nice, lounge with TV, separate bedroom and kitchen. After unpacking what we needed took a walk up the lane beside the hotel which appeared to go up in to the forest.....we like a bit of an adventure. after about 20 mins came to a sign saying waterfall entrance path 200m, but after much searching never found it. However we did see a view birds and butterflies. As we started back down we were greeted by 4 lovely playful puppies, but they were riddled with fleas. The owner then appeared, although he could not speak any English directed us to a large pond where he kept 5 alligators/crocodiles......the things we find!!!! He fed them on chickens, dead ones we hope, but how or why he has them we will never know. As we had seen a few birds, arranged birding trip with guide for the following morning.

Monday 16th. Up early for our 7.15 pick up, drove deep into the forest before setting off on foot, plastered in mosquito repellent.... not sure it worked to well. We were the only two with our guide. Saw about 20 different species of birds and a lizard. Although we were well covered up, still managed to be bitten.

. Our hotel is a short distance down a track from the main road and town centre, cross over and down anther track to the beach takes about 5 mins. The beach is nice, but you have to lay on towels or beach mats. Took a stroll along the beach and checked out some of the accommodation on offer. For £10 a tiny one room wooden hut with fan, toilet sink and cold shower out the back, but only half with roof, 50 yards from beach...... not for us. £25 for a better chalet and amenities. £50 upwards for a nice hotel on the beach, sea view rooms, swimming pool and free sun beds..... very inviting. As we had talked about moving to a beach hotel I enquired at one we both liked, managed to haggle the price down.....so we will be on the move again in two days. For dinner we both went for western food, Thai food ok but need a change sometimes. Nice sunset in the evening.

Tuesday 17th. Had heavy rain during the night and the cockerel started at 5.00am. Up early for walk up the track into the forest, spent 3 hours bird watching. Paths were a bit muddy from the overnight rain. Another shower at midday, but still very warm. Found a nice cheap restaurant for lunch but food was very good. Found another track leading up into the forest, again saw several species of bird and butterfly. Will try it again tomorrow morning before we move to the next hotel.
Photo's taking ages to load, so giving up for today.
